Now Accepting Applications: QMNC Research Fellows

The QMNC Research Fellows will support the QMNC Research Alliance online community members, with the goal of facilitating the QMNC research agenda and developing research capacity across the alliance. These positions support the following priority of the QMNC Strategic Plan:

Expanding Research – Catalyze the conduct, translation, and implementation of research that meets the needs and preferences of childbearing women and people, infants, and families.

This crosscutting priority provides a base from which the alliance can provide support and guidance to members, whether individuals or organizations, as they seek to conduct research on maternal and newborn care by keeping the research community up to date on improvements in maternal and newborn care. Further, it will assist in the promotion and dissemination of that research to inform the application of research findings using social media and multimedia platforms.

Six fellows – one from each WHO region – will work closely with the Senior Research Manager to provide support to members organized within the three research priorities as they seek to conduct research on maternal and newborn care. Authorship opportunities are possible depending on level of participation.

Requirements: Interest and training in research methods, midwifery care and physiologic birth. Able to speak and write in English. Internet access and ability to meet remotely with research teams. Graduate level training in research preferred.

Responsibilities:
– Support a research team in one of the research priorities to conduct and publish research using the QMNC platform.
– Conduct literature reviews and write drafts of other outputs.
– Present findings at conferences and engage in workshops on the work of the QMNC.
– Participate in discussions and events hosted by the QMNC using the online platform.

Reports to: QMNC steering committee co-leads and Senior Research Manager

Works with:
– QMNC research priority team leads
– Senior Research Manager

Hours/Salary: Minimum of 5 hours per month for 48 months – $1500 stipend per year.

Helpful skills/knowledge:
– Some understanding of the perinatal research community, particularly those engaged in research around midwifery and physiologic birth in home country
– Connections to communities impacted by maternity care
– A passion for learning research methods, academic writing, publishing, knowledge translation, research implementation and grant writing
– A knowledge of how to engage with colleagues and mentors virtually
– A working knowledge of supports and barriers to research, especially in low- and middle- income countries
– Adequate Wi-Fi/connectivity

Deliverables:
Support QMNC teams to produce:
– Peer-reviewed open-access publications
– Lay language summaries of findings, to be shared with research participants, media, and the public
– Policy briefs that outline how findings can inform policy, to be disseminated to decision-makers
